ALL ABOUT FASCIAL STRETCH THERAPY
WHAT IS FASCIA?
Fascia, or fascial tissue, is our biological net of thin but dense connective tissues that is responsible for maintaining the structural framework throughout the human body.
WHERE IS FASCIA FOUND?
Fascial tissue can be found beneath the skin wrapped, connected, and intertwined through all of our bones, nerves, muscles, blood vessels, and tendons.
We have three layers of fascial tissue:
The Superficial fascia: is directly below our skin. It stores fat and water, allows nerves to run through it, and allows muscle to move the skin
Deep fascia: surrounds and infuses with muscle, bone, nerves, and blood vessels to the cellular level
Visceral (Subserious) fascia: associated with our internal organs
WHAT DOES FASCIA DO IN OUR BODY?
Fascial tissue is meant to be elastic and have freedom to move freely within the human body. However things like stress, injury, surgeries, overworked/overused muscles, or poor body mechanics can cause your fascia to lose its elasticity, becoming shortened, tight, and thick.
This loss of elasticity of the fascial tissue can then lead to stiffness, pain, restrictions to movement/blood flow/nerve supply, postural changes, and aches throughout your body. Left untreated, poor fascial mobility can lead to chronic pain, poor immune response, chronic fatigue, low back pain, and more (Anatomy, Fascia)
